Surfing
Looking for a surfing adventure?
Air Nootka can fly you to a remote location where you and your
friends can camp on an amazing sandy beach with plenty of fresh
water and driftwood for a fire at sunset every evening. Best of
all, the chances of having anybody else in the lineup for waves
are slim to none.
Access
Your adventure starts with a flight from our floatplane base in
Gold River down Muchalat Inlet to the west coast of Nootka
Island. Your drop-off is Bajo Point. This landing site is tide
and weather dependant, so your flight will be arranged
accordingly. |

Calvin Beach |
|
From Bajo Point, it’s 2.5 km to Calvin Falls,
the ideal camping spot. It takes the average group,
with gear, about one and a half hours to hike this
distance during low to mid-level tide heights. The
camping at Calvin Falls is a dream. The waterfall
supplies you with unlimited fresh water, and there
is lots of firewood and even a shelter on the beach.
There is plenty of beach break potential here, depending on
swell size. The rock shelves just west of Calvin and into Skuna
Bay have nice set-ups, but are influenced significantly by tide
and swell direction. The spring and fall are the best times to
do this unforgettable trip. The swell is consistent, the days
are longer and the temperatures are warmer than in the winter
storm season.

| The
best scenario for transportation is to plan for a group of four
people, their packs, and 6 to 8 surfboards (no longer than 7’0”)
for each Beaver aircraft load. Both our Beavers comfortably
handle 1100 lbs. each. This includes the weight of passengers
and gear. |
